Here's a new update on how things are going. This time, I also included a bit of vlog as well!
If the video is to shaky, I have included the text below (it should be less shaky by the end)
Would you be willing to pray and consider supporting me as I seek to follow God’s call? Your tax deductible gift can be made out to SDPC or go to the link below for online giving. For the Seminary Scholarship Fund, please write “Seminary Scholarship Fund - Paul Cary” on the memo line. For the Czech Missions Trip, write "CZ-Paul Cary." Both donations can be mailed to:
South Dayton Presbyterian Church
1180 East Alex Bell Road
Centerville, OH 45459-2640
To give online, you may also go to http://www.sdpc.org/czech-trip-2015 were you can find links to Paypal (for credit cards) or E-giving (debit and ACH). At the E-giving website, under "Deacons Fund" you can write "Seminary Scholarship Fund" to give to that account.
It has been a really busy spring so far. There has been a lot going on. Between work and church, with the Czech Team and seminary planning, every day has been full with activities every evening. Some of it is stressful, but as I reflect on all of it, I see that the majority of it has been good things and all of it has caused me to grow. I am experiencing the pressures and stresses of ministry. I find that when I face it on my own, I fail. But when I pray and ask God to work, He does and my spirit is filled with joy. A great example of this from the past month is the ESL program at church. By Wednesday afternoons, I am tired from work, stressed about deadlines and goals for different projects, and the last thing I want to do is work with people who don't understand me. As the ESL teachers have gathered to pray before class the past few weeks, I have silently prayed at times for strength and sometimes even that no students would come so I could go home and rest. Each week God has given me rest, but it has rarely meant a night off. After teaching for about 2 hours and working with the students who can hardly speak any English, I have found my spirits lifted and a excited energy. It changes from week to week, but I see God blessing the students and transforming my heart.
As I am planning for both the Czech Trip and my move to Scotland to go to seminary, I have seen God answering prayers. The travel plans are falling into place and it is exciting to think that in three months I'll be moving. I am in the process of nailing down my housing while at seminary, as well as my travel plans from the Czech Republic to Edinburgh. At home, I'm in the processes of going through my belongings and seeing what I will try to take, what I will store, and what I will sell. So if you are in the market for a 12 string guitar, 4 string banjo, banjo-mandolin, resonator, or classical guitar, let me know.
I also wanted to give a quick update on the fundraising. South Dayton Presbyterian Church is raising money both for the team of people going to the Czech Republic as well as a seminary scholarship fund. I have set a goal of raising $2,000 for the Czech trip and $4,000 for the seminary scholarship fund by May 25th Currently, just under 50% of my total goal has come in. If I reach the goal, I'll shave my beard, and keep clean shaven for three weeks. I want to thank everyone who has supported me so far. It has been really encouraging and I look forward to pursuing God's call to ministry.
