Could you give me a lift?

“Now, instead of me lecturing you about the themes of John, Paul is going to come and preach a sermon to introduce our series.” I am so grateful for the help and support of the 2Tim4 Preaching Trust. I started working with them last fall and have had the opportunity to preach in different churches around Scotland. At one of our training days in May, I was asked to preach the sermon I had put together to introduce a series on John. After preaching, the members of the group went around gave me feedback. This training has been really useful in helping me both gain experience and learn what my weaknesses are.
On June 4th, I had the opportunity to rework this sermon to preach as the concluding sermon for a series on the Gospel of John. I was preaching in the small town of Auchengray. This village is about a 45 minute drive southwest of Edinburgh. Stephen, one of my classmates, gave me a lift. He and his wife picked me up a bit early so that we could get to the church in plenty of time. Good thing too! When we were about 5 minutes out, the car stopped engaging any of the gears except 3rd. We made it to the church just fine, but after we stopped, we could not get the car to go into any gear. While I met with the elder of the church to go over the service, my friends started making phone calls. At the end of the service, we excused ourselves a bit early so that we could try the car once more. No luck. A tow truck was called and arrived about 20 minutes later. As we rode in the back of the cab of the truck, Stephen and I joked about getting new sermon illustrations out of the adventure. I am so thankful for God’s protection and good friends!

You can listen to the sermon here. Also, if you would like to get my prayer letter, sign up here!
